Special Education Information Meeting-1/27

All residents of Riverside Public School District 96 serving Riverside, parts of North Riverside, and the Hollywood section of Brookfield, whose children attend parochial, private or are home schooled, are invited to receive timely and meaningful consultation on the child find process for children suspected of having a disability. Information regarding Special Education evaluation and available services will be provided. The meeting will occur on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 in the Central School Library at 61 Woodside Road in Riverside from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Preschool Screening February 18 & 19, 2010

Riverside Public School District 96 is providing pre-school screening for all children living in the school district who were born between September 2, 2004 and February 18, 2007.

The screening will take place at Central School, 61 Woodside Road, and will cover (1) vision, (2) hearing, (3) speech and language development, (4) gross and fine motor skills, and (5) social development. The purpose of the screening is to help determine if children are progressing at a normal rate of growth in the area screened for entrance into the kindergarten.

A team of professionals from the Riverside Public Schools will survey the children’s social and language development by playing games and talking with them. You will be asked some questions about your child’s development and interests. The screening will take about 45 minutes for each child. Results of the evaluation will be given at the end of the screening.

Since the team can work with only a small number of children at one time, each family is asked to make an appointment at the elementary school in its school attendance area by Friday, February 6, 2010. A specific time will be reserved for each child’s appointment. The addresses and phone numbers of the elementary schools are as follows:

Ames 86 Southcote Road, Riverside – 447-0759
Mrs. Colleen Lieggi, Principal
Blythe Park 735 Leelsey Road, Riverside – 447-2168
Mr. Bob Chleboun, Principal
Central 61 Woodside Road, Riverside – 447-1106
Dr. Janice Limperis
Hollywood 3423 Hollywood Avenue, Brookfield – 485-7630
Ms. Mindy Keller, Interim Principal

If you know of any neighbors who may not be aware of this service for three, four and five year olds, please inform them. Parents of infants and toddlers between the ages of birth to 36 months, who are concerned about the development of their child, are asked to contact the Child and Family Connection at 1-888-KONTACT (566-8228), at no cost to the parent, to determine whether or not a child is eligible for special education services such as speech/language therapy and/or occupational/physical therapy. If a child is found to be eligible for services, then parents will be assisted in locating services from an appropriate agency serving infants and toddlers with handicaps.

Registration for the 2010-2011 Kindergarten is scheduled in the Riverside Public Schools for March 4, 2010. A child entering kindergarten in September 2010 must be five on or before September 1, 2010.

We look forward to serving you. Thank you for your cooperation.
