Blythe Park Will Be Open Tuesday, 1/23

After Com Ed completes repairs by late afternoon today (2/22), District 96 maintenance staff will restart the mechanical systems (boiler). We anticipate that all systems will be back on-line this evening so that Blythe Park students can return to school on Tuesday, February 23.

Several heating system components were damaged when one of the underground power lines shorted out due to moisture infiltration.  In the unlikely event that the heating system cannot be repaired by tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, Dr. Lamberson will forward a SchoolReach to parents.

Blythe Park Parents:

I just received notice from Com Ed that an underground power line needs to be repaired so the boilers will again function at Blythe Park. Unfortunately, this work will not be completed until late this afternoon.

Since we will not have heat in the school, I am closing Blythe Park School today – Monday, Feb. 22nd. You may pick up your child anytime after 11 AM.

Afternoon Kindergarten and afternoon ECE at Blythe Park are cancelled today.

If you call the school, please be patient. The office has only one working phone line.

Thank you for your understanding.

School Reach Test Message

The following test School Reach message was sent by Dr. Lamberson Thursday afternoon:

“11/19/09 Good afternoon, this is Dr. Lamberson. This is an informational phone call to District 96 parents…there is no emergency!

Before winter weather arrives, I want to ensure that our SchoolReach emergency phone system is properly working, since I will use it in the event of an emergency school closing. This system will call up to 3 numbers; the ones you listed on the registration form: mom’s day phone, dad’s day phone and the home phone number.

In the event, you received this message on 1 or 2 phones, but not all 3, we may have a wrong phone number recorded in our database. Please alert your school office. We will make the necessary correction so that in the event of an emergency, I can communicate with you as soon as possible.

If you would like to know other occasions when this system will be used, please refer to the District’s 2009-10 Communication Guide. It’s posted on the district’s website under the “resources” tab.

As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, I extend my wishes for a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Thank You!”

Sick Day Guidelines

October 24, 2009 by

With the flu season upon us, below are the Sick Day Guidelines listed on page 12 of the 2009-2010 Parent Handbook.

Consider keeping your child home if he or she:
√ has a fever 99 degrees or higher
√ has been vomiting
√ has symptoms that prevent him or her from participating in school such as:

  • Productive coughing, sneezing
  • Headache, body aches, earache
  • Sore throat

A minor sore throat is usually not a problem, but a severe sore throat could be
strep throat even if there is no fever. Other symptoms of strep throat in children
are headache and stomach upset. Contact your pediatrician, as your child needs
a special test to determine if it is strep throat.

Keep your child home until his or her fever has been gone for 24 hours without
medication. Returning to school too soon may slow the recovery process and
expose others unnecessarily to illness.

If these symptoms appear while the child is in school, the parents will be called
and asked to take the child home. If a child is absent 3 days or more due to an
illness, a physician’s note will be required to be turned into the school.

Important Safety Reminder!

From the Riverside Police Department & District 96

As we welcome the new school year, it is a great time to revisit traffic and parking safety procedures and expectations. In past years we’ve witnessed some potentially dangerous incidents in the drop off/pick-up areas. All of these incidents can be avoided by all drivers following these traffic/parking expectations:

  • Please use extreme caution while in the presence of children in the area of the school.
  • Please drive slowly and refrain from cell phone use while driving through the drop-off/pick-up zones.
  • Please DO NOT leave your vehicle while in the drop-off/pick-up zones.
  • If there is a need to go into the school or visit with anyone inside the school, please park your vehicle legally and walk to meet your child.
  • Do not ask/expect your child to walk in front of another car to get into your car. This is extremely dangerous.
  • Please help the school staff and police officers by being extra diligent in following these procedures.

Student safety is our utmost goal at the Riverside Police Department. Thank you in advance for partnering with us to make sure that all District 96 staff, students, and parents are safe!

Sincerely,
Thomas Weitzel
