K is for Kaskaskia

1. When Illinois became a state in 1818, Kaskaskia became the first capitol.

2. It was established in 1703 by a Jusuit missionary and named after a local Native American group of Illinois.

3. The first newspaper of Illinois was started in Kaskaskia.

4. Sadly in 1820 the capitol was moved to Vandalia, closer to the middle of Illinois.

5. Since Kaskaskia was in between the Mississippi River some say it is cursed and will flood.

6. In 1890 Kaskaskia was destroyed because the Mississippi River flooded it. Could the curse be true????????
