The District 96 Board of Education will conduct guided tours of Central Elementary School on Wednesday September 28, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in anticipation of the capital improvement work scheduled during the summer of 2012. Notification of Board Member Vacancy

The District 96 School Board is accepting applications to fill a board member vacancy resulting from Mrs. Mary Stimming ceasing to be an inhabitant of the District. Per board policy 2:70, a successor shall be appointed to serve the remainder of the unexpired term from appointment date until the April, 2013 election. Qualified candidates shall meet the requirements as specified in The School Code 105 ILCS 5/10-3 and 5/10-10.

• Be a United States citizen.
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a resident of Illinois and the District for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment.
• Be a registered voter.
• Not be a school trustee.
• Not be a child sex offender.
• Not hold another incompatible public office.
• Not have a prohibited interest in any contract with the District.
• Not hold certain types of prohibited state or federal employment.

Applicants should show familiarity with the Board’s policies regarding general duties and responsibilities of a Board and a Board member, including fiduciary responsibilities, conflict of interest, ethics and gift ban. The Board’s policies are located on the District 96 website.

Letter of interest and resume containing background will be accepted by Mrs. Susan Moorhead, Board Secretary, at moorheads@district96.org beginning Thursday, September 1, 2011.

First Day of School

The first day of school for District 96 students is Tuesday, August 30. The following schedule applies:

Ames, Blythe & Central: 8:25 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Hollywood: 8:20 a.m. – 11:25 a.m.
Hauser: 8:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

On Tuesday, August 30 all kindergarteners, including AM and PM students, should come to school with a parent/guardian anytime between the hours of 8:25 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at Ames, Blythe & Central and 8:20 a.m. – 11:25 a.m. at Hollywood.

Students and parents can spend between 15-30 minutes visiting their classroom, meeting their teacher and drop off supplies.

The regular kindergarten schedule will begin on Wednesday, August 31.

Last Day of School Friday, June 3

Due to the snow day on February 2nd, the last day of school for the 2010-11 school year will be Friday, June 3rd. Thursday, June 2nd will be a full day of student attendance and Friday will be a shortened school day.

The 2010-11 School Calendar was amended by the Board of Education on April 19, 2011.
