Riverside Public School District 96 is providing a Special Education pre-school screening for children living in the school district born between September 2, 2005 and February 18, 2008 whose parents are concerned that their children may be disabled. This screening is only for children who may be in need of Special Education services. This is not a screening for entrance into Kindergarten.
The screening will take place at Central School, 61 Woodside Road, and will cover vision, hearing, speech and language development, fine and gross motor skills, and social development. The purpose of this screening is to help determine if your child is in need of special education services.
A team of professionals from the Riverside Public Schools will survey your child’s social and language development by playing games and talking with them. The screening will be completed in approximately 30 minutes for each child. Results of the evaluation will be given at the end of the screening.
Since the team can work with only a small number of children at one time, each family is asked to call and make an appointment with Cathy Petzko, Special Education Secretary, at 447-0706 by Friday, February 4, 2011. A confirming letter will be mailed to your home along with an Eye and Ear Medical History form which will need to be returned to Central School prior to the screening.
If you know of any neighbors who may not be aware of this Special Education pre-school screening for three, four and five year olds, please inform them. Parents of infants and toddlers between the ages of birth to 36 months, who are concerned that their children may be disabled are asked to contact the Child and Family Connection at 1-888-8228, at no cost to parent for an evaluation to determine whether or not their children are eligible for special education services such as speech/language therapy and or occupational/physical therapy. If children are found eligible for services, then parents will be assisted in locating services from appropriate agencies serving infants and toddlers with handicaps.
There will be an informational meeting for Kindergarten registration for the 2011-2012 school year in the Riverside Public Schools on March 3, 2011. Your home school will provide further details. A child entering Kindergarten in September 2011 must be five years old on or before September 1, 2011.
We look forward to serving you. Thank you for your cooperation.
