STUDY SKILLS
ORGANIZATION AND RESPONSIBILITY
REQUIREMENTS
Student organization and responsibility are key ingredients of good study habits and study skills and ultimately school productivity. Therefore, in grades K - 8 students will be required to organize their work and be responsible for their assignments. They will be required at regular intervals to bring information home, share information with parents and return information to school. Consequences for failure to complete these organization and responsibility tasks will be established and implemented. The purpose of these requirements is to teach responsibility and organization and improve school/parent communications.

The following is an outline of organization and responsibility requirements in School District 96.

I. KINDERGARTEN

  1. Monthly Calendar
    1. Calendar with notes and assigned tasks for each day will be given to each student for each month.
    2. Tasks should be completed daily as indicated on calendar.
    3. Calendar should be signed on the last day of each month by parents and those who helped.
  2. Special daily tasks will be assigned as needed (homework).
  3. Completed work will be sent home as needed.
  4. Newsletters may be sent home at the discretion of the teacher.

 

II. FIRST AND SECOND GRADE

  1. Weekly Folder
    1. Each child will keep a weekly work folder.
    2. Each child will bring the folder home on Fridays.
    3. Attached to the front of the folder will be a Parent's Signature sheet.
    4. Parents should review the folder, sign and date the sheet
    5. Student will return the folder with the signed sheet the following Monday
  2. Special daily tasks will be assigned as needed (homework).
  3. Completed work may be sent home daily as needed in addition to the weekly folder.
  4. Newsletters may be sent home at the discretion of the teacher.

III. THIRD GRADE

  1. A. Work Folders
    1. Each student will keep a work folder.
    2. Each student will bring the folder home at least once each week and have the folder signed by the parent when deemed necessary.
  2. Special daily tasks will be assigned as needed (homework).
  3. Completed work may be sent home daily as needed in addition to the weekly folder.
  4. An assignment notebook will be used based in individual need.
  5. Newsletters may be sent home at the discretion of the teacher.

 

IV. FOURTH GRADE

  1. An assignment notebook will be completed daily by the student, monitored by the teacher and signed by a parent when deemed necessary.
  2. Completed work may be sent home daily or weekly.
  3. A daily or weekly folder which requires a parent signature may be used as needed.
  4. Special daily tasks will be assigned as needed (homework).
  5. Newsletters may be sent home at the discretion of the teacher.

 

V. FIFTH GRADE

  1. An assignment notebook will be completed daily by the student, monitored by the parents and/or teacher when necessary.
  2. Completed work may be sent home daily or weekly.
  3. Parent signature may be required indicating student has studied for a test.
  4. Special daily tasks will be assigned as needed (homework).
  5. Newsletters may be sent home at the discretion of the teacher.

 

VI. SIXTH, SEVENTH and EIGHTH GRADES

  1. Study skills are an integral part of instruction for each area of study in the curriculum.
  2. All students will be required to use a daily assignment notebook for all classes.
  3. Teachers will monitor individual student assignments, homework completion, and assignment notebooks.
  4. Counselors will provide close supervision of a daily assignment notebook when appropriate for identified students.
  5. Completed assignments are regularly sent home with the students.
  6. Mid-quarter notices are used to inform parents of student progress concerns.
  7. During homeroom, teachers provide a supervised, quiet study atmosphere for individual student work.
