D96 Health and Safety Protocol Update (4/4/22)

  • The District recommends students and staff wear masks
  • Masks will be recommended for visitors to the building
  • Masking is a family decision and we are here to support your family’s decision. Your decision is confidential and will not be shared.
  • Consider reaching out to your child’s teacher, social worker, or principal if you feel a more individualized conversation is needed to support your child
  • Masks are required in Health/Nurse Office. A  mask should be kept with your child in the event a visit to the office is necessary

Students Displaying Any COVID Symptoms

  • If you have a COVID symptom: 
    • You need a negative antigen rapid or PCR test from a testing site or an alternate diagnosis from a medical provider
    • You must be symptom and fever free for at least 24 hours before returning to school. 
  • If you test positive for COVID: 
    • You must isolate for five days
    • You may return on day six as long as you are fever free and your symptoms are improving and
    • You are required to wear a mask on days 6-10 or you must stay home

COVID Exposure

  • Vaccinated students no longer require exclusion if exposed to COVID. Families may choose exclusion while monitoring for symptoms.  Unvaccintated students exposed at school may test to stay or exclude for five days
  • The school will continue to inform families of a COVID case in the specific classroom. If students are a close contact in school, a test to stay option will be offered
  • Test-to-stay through Shield is also an option for families who wish to carefully monitor possible COVID identification
  • If a student develops a COVID symptom, they will follow the above protocol
  • Unvaccinated COVID close contacts outside of school; particularly in the same household will be advised by local health department regarding protocol for exclusion from school

Social Distancing in the Classroom/Lunchroom

  • All schools will continue with 3 feet social distancing in classrooms
  • We cannot guarantee specific requests about classroom or lunchroom seating

Zoom Sessions 

  • Students will continue to have access to remote education through Zoom for confirmed positive cases 
  • Zoom access will be considered when/if a close contact chooses to isolate at home.

Social Emotional Wellness of Students

  • Our staff will continue to meet the needs of all students during this transitional time
  • School wide communication will be provided to build positive and respectful relationships between students
  • Schools will continue to provide families with resources and supports through our student support team
  • Encourage students to reach out to their trusted adults if they need help

Band and After School Activities

  • We will continue to place cloth covers on wind instruments to reduce air flow from musical instruments
  • Masks will be recommended but not required for all other activities including athletics hosted in District 96 buildings
  • Host districts will determine mask requirements for athletic and music events
  • Masks are no longer required on transportation to/from events

Other Health Mitigations

  • SHIELD Saliva testing will continue for participating students and staff
  • Frequent hand washing will be encouraged
  • Each classroom has an air purifier and hand sanitizer 
  • All cleaning procedures will remain the same 
  • Children will be required to wear a mask when visiting the nurse’s office
