January 31, 2018
Dear District 96 Parents and Guardians,
Having been in education my whole life, including my own elementary years and beyond, I continue to live with the idea that the year really begins in August, on the first day of school. For many of you, the year begins on January 1st. I can agree to living in both worlds. I get a haircut and new shoes every August (just like I have been doing since I was 5 years old) while also making New Year’s resolutions every January. District 96 is looking forward to an exciting year in 2018. We will soon be launching a much-anticipated long range facility plan to guide our work over the next 10 years. The plan encompasses necessary upgrades and updates in operations and maintenance, while prioritizing some needed large-scale improvements.
We appreciate the high degree of community feedback ranging from our survey to community forum. As we move forward, we anticipate continuing to learn from you and to inform you as well. The long range plan will be presented to the School Board and the community at the Committee of the Whole meeting on February 7 at 7:00 pm in the Hauser library. Please plan to join us or tune in via YouTube.
We will soon be sending information to families and to the community about our new website launch. The new website is designed to share many of the same newsworthy features of our old website, while providing better accessibility and a fresh look for the new year.
Please mark March 14, 2018 on your calendars. The community is invited to a town hall forum where we will share our annual progress toward strategic planning goals. We are excited about the progress and changes to our curriculum materials and tools for student learning. As already mentioned, the long range facility plan that encompasses needs at all 5 schools will be addressed.
We know that the new year also brings concerns about colds, flu, snow and ice. Yesterday you received communication from our wonderful team of nurses promoting strategies for staying healthy in these winter months. This includes encouraging all children to stay home when sick and to practice wellness techniques including regular hand washing. I am also re-sending the emergency closing information with regards to possible inclement weather.
As always, we value your continued partnership as we move forward into 2018 and beyond. Thank you for all you do to support your child in all of their educational goals and activities.
