Dear Parents and Guardians,
At last night’s meeting, the Board of Education updated the District 96 Policy on Student Assignment. As you may know, for many years the student/school assignments in District 96 have been guided by a flexible boundary policy. This policy has allowed the school district to place students at schools near their homes while remaining cognizant of the variabilities in school and class sizes. This policy represents the Board of Education’s ongoing goal of continued support of all students in accessing a high quality education.
It is most important to know that this policy applies to Kindergarteners and all newly enrolled students who do not have a sibling already enrolled in one of our elementary schools where the sibling will also be in attendance that next year. Some parents have expressed a concern that this policy might create a situation where children currently attending a District 96 elementary school will be moved to another school. This policy specifically states that, once enrolled, children will stay in that school for their K-5 education.
Please take a few moments to review the updated policy and the list of Frequently Asked Questions. This information is linked below and available on our website. If you are interested in learning more about the policy or if you have specific questions regarding how this may impact your child(ren), please feel free to reach out to me directly.
I am proud that encouraging, supporting, challenging and nurturing children to be successful in many ways is what we do in every school, every day in District 96.
