Fourth graders play chess!

It's not about Kings, Queens, and Rooks, but rather, quadrants and coordinates, thinking strategically and foreseeing consequences. It's about lines and angles, weighing options and making decisions. Chess might just be the perfect teaching and learning tool. Everyone is equal on the chessboard. Students who are English language learners find success with chess, because they don't face language barriers on the chessboard. The 4th graders just think chess is fun!! (4 photos)

Hello Ames School Families-

I hope this email finds everyone doing well, and looking forward to the Ames Family Dance this evening from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at Ames School.

Please note some reminders below regarding our staff wanting to ensure the safety of our students at Ames School during drop off and pick up times.

Back Parking Lot: Some parents are dropping off their children at school late and do not want to wait in the drop off line at the front of Ames. As a result, they are dropping their children off in the back parking lot. Some of our students who walk to school walk through the back parking lot. Vehicles that cut through this lot stand the risk of possibly hitting a child. Please be aware that the back parking lot is NOT a drop off/pick up zone at Ames School. We will be placing a staff member in our back parking lot to ensure the safety of our students during arrival and dismissal times.

Unattended Children: Please do NOT leave any children unattended in your vehicle in the drop-off/pick-up zones for the safety and well-being of all children at Ames.

Thank you for assisting the Ames staff to make sure that our students are safe at Ames School during drop off/pick up times. We appreciate our home/school partnership we have with all of our families.

Have a nice weekend!

Respectfully,

Todd A. Gierman
Principal, A.F. Ames School
