Dear Parent/Guardian:

Riverside School District 96 is pleased to announce that we will begin using the Raptor Volunteer Management System in all of our schools to build on the district’s program of campus safety for students and faculty. Part of keeping students and faculty safe is knowing who is in our building at all times. Raptor allows us to do that. Raptor will better allow us to track volunteers in our schools and provide us with a safer environment for students and staff.

Volunteer services can encompass a wide variety of activities and/or areas of interest. While the list below is not all inclusive, the following are some examples of common volunteer opportunities: Classroom Helper (Level 1), Office Helper (Level 1), Library Helper (Level 1), Fundraising (Level 1), Field Trip Chaperone (Level 2), and Junior Great Books Volunteer (Level 2).

In District 96, we have two levels of volunteer clearance. The levels associated with each volunteer function are based on being under the direct supervision of District 96 staff.

  • A Level 1 volunteer is always under the supervision of District 96 staff and will be requested to complete an online application to complete a background check using the national sex offender database.
  • A Level 2 volunteer may not be under the direct supervision of District 96 staff and will be requested to complete an online application and submit their Social Security number to complete a criminal background check (including the National Criminal Database and national sex offender database).

To become a volunteer, an individual must complete a Raptor Volunteer Application. The application is to be filled out completely by the volunteer at their home by visiting http://bit.ly/raptor96.

For more information on how to fill out the online application, please click here.

Before volunteering at a District 96 school campus or field trips, individuals must be cleared through the through the Raptor system and are required to provide a picture ID to receive their volunteer badge upon check-in.

Regardless of what form or direction your volunteer services take, your generosity in donating time, assistance, and/or expertise is very much appreciated. With the generous and caring support of volunteers such as yourself, the opportunities to meet the individual needs of each student are greatly increased.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at smitj@district96.org or 708.447.5007. Thank you for your understanding and support of enhancing school safety protocols in our school and district.
