Substitute Teaching

 

District 96 is hiring substitute teachers to cover for instructional staff who are absent or unavailable for normal classroom duties. Substitute teachers have always been a valuable part of the District 96 community.  Their role in our classrooms is important in maintaining in-person learning for our students.

 

Currently, our day-to-day substitute teachers pay rate is as follows:

  • 1-20 days 
  • Beginning 21st day
  • Long Term*   
$125.00 per day
$135.00 per day
$175.00 per day

*Long term positions are classified as 15 consecutive days in the same assignment.

 

Substitutes are required to hold one of the following State of Illinois license:

  • Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Substitute License (Bachelor’s degree required. Beginning Jan 2023, applicants enrolled in an Illinois-approved educator program may qualify for the substitute license with a minimum of 90 semesters hours of completed coursework)
  • Short Term Substitute License (Associate’s degree or at least 60 college credit hours)
  • Educator License with Stipulations or Paraprofessional License (Bachelor’s degree required)

 

Requirements to obtain a substitute license can be found on the Illinois State Board of Education website at ISBE Licensure.
