Superintendent's Message

August 14, 2017

Dear District 96 Parents and Guardians,
I hope that you have enjoyed a wonderful summer with your children. Whether this is your first year in District 96 or perhaps your last year, we are eager to welcome all of our District 96 children to school. The first day of school for students in Grades 1-8 is Thursday, August 24Kindergarten and Early Learners will begin on Friday, August 25. Please refer to the information from your child’s principal regarding school supply drop-off and the meet and greet sessions with the teachers. Adjustments have been made to the Kindergarten meet and greet sessions in an effort to include all of our Kindergarten families.
Parents and guardians might wonder what goes on at our schools during the summer months. I can assure you that schools without teachers and students are not the same, but summer does provide important opportunities to focus on building projects and to support our teachers with professional learning opportunities. I am happy to report that this summer once again provided ongoing learning opportunities for our teachers, and several building projects were completed to better provide learning opportunities for our students. We look forward to the 2017-2018 school year with a continued focus on our Strategic Goals. District Goals for this year will continue to focus on assuring a high quality academic curriculum along with an emphasis on social-emotional learning that supports, welcomes and engages all of our students. Our work this year will bring more information and plans regarding our long range facility needs.
I look forward to sharing another year with you and your child(ren) in their educational journey. It is a privilege to share this important experience in your child’s life. I invite you to reach out with questions or concerns.
In Partnership,

Martha Ryan-Toye
