Residency

  • Students must be valid residents within district boundaries. Proof of residency is required at registration.

Kindergarten

  • District 96 offers full-day kindergarten. A half-day kindergarten program is also available to families. A child must be five years of age on or before September 1 of the year the child is to be enrolled in kindergarten. According to School Board Policy, children who attain the age of five after September 1 are eligible to attend kindergarten the next year.

Registration

  • Registration helps verify that only children of District 96 residents attend our schools. It provides an opportunity to share information with and collect information from families that improve communications throughout the school year.

  • A certified birth certificate is required for each child entering District 96 for the first time. This applies to all grades kindergarten through eight and early childhood (ECE). U.S. certified birth certificates can be obtained from the state where the document was originally filed. Most states offer online ordering services.

Transfer of School Record

  • Parents of children who previously attended another district must complete that district’s student transfer form notifying them to transfer student records to District 96.

Questions

  • To learn more, call the principal of your neighborhood school with any questions regarding registration or to arrange a school visit.
