Student Technology

Devices

Students use different technology throughout their school day based on their grade level. Below are some facts about each device:

iPad

  • KG - 2nd grade students are on iPad's

  • Devices are managed through a system that allows only the apps/resources needed in classes to be installed. This system also controls the removing of apps and restrictions to the devices.

  • Web filtering is installed on each device and allows for safe browsing by each student inside and outside of the buildings.

  • Anything done on the iPad's are encrypted and not stored in any cloud system to protect student data/privacy.

  • Devices will stay in school and not go home with students (unless there are inclement weather days, student needs, or winter break)

Chromebook

  • 3rd - 8th grade students are on Chromebook's

  • Devices are managed through a system that allows resources needed in classes to be installed. This system also controls the removing of apps and restrictions to the devices.

  • Web filtering is installed on each device and allows for safe browsing by each student inside and outside of the buildings.

  • Chromebook devices do not have a physical hard drive installed in them, which means that there is no local storing to the device itself. This ensures that nothing can be accidentally downloaded or installed on the device

  • 3rd - 5th Grade Students

    • Devices will stay in school and not go home with students unless there are specific assignments that are assigned by the classroom teacher need to be completed.

    • Devices will travel with students for inclement weather days, student needs, or winter break)

  • 6th - 8th Grade Students

    • Devices will travel to and from school with the students.

Devices will auto lock and prevent use from 10pm-6am Monday - Friday

District Monitoring

When student devices are on-site and in our buildings, their devices internet and browsing has content filtering through our firewall.

Students are also monitored through the use of our platform Securly. This allows us to:

  • Monitor student activities.

  • Review sites visited & block sites as it is needed.

  • Create content filters for sites and videos that do not allow for content higher than set to be viewed.

  • Receive immediate flags for inappropriate use/danger/self harm .

Student devices are protected off-site and at home by Securly. The same policies that are present during the school day stay locally on the device and can not be removed or altered.

Parents will also have the ability to set policies on their students devices through Securly Home that can make them more locked down while they are off-site and at home.

Student Website Access

Students will have access websites that are part of our curriculum and learning days. Some of these sites are:

  • Clever

  • Seesaw

  • Schoology

  • IXL

  • iReady

  • State Testing Platforms

  • Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides

Students will not have access to websites that contain harmful images, content rating 18+ (P-PG only), social media, gaming, and youtube on any device.

Teacher Monitoring

Teachers have the ability to monitor their classes devices throughout the day.

This allows for teachers to see students screens in real time, block sites from being accessed if a student was on one, force lock the device to prevent use, and chat to the student to re direct them back to their classwork.

Our teachers in K-2nd grade are using a system called Securly Classroom and our teachers in 3rd-8th grade are using a system called GoGuardian

Securly Home Set Up

Parents can monitor and restrict their students devices if they come home. This is done through a system called "Securly Home".

To get set up with Securly Home:

  1. Parents will need to set up an account through Securly home website. This email should be the one you use as the parent email for your students via the District.

    1. There is also an App that can be downloaded for Andriod and Apple

  2. Once your account is created or your password is reset, your students device will be available when you log in to see, monitor, and restrict while students are at home
